A different kind of wardrobe_remix today. Went out for Halloween last night and got to show off my "dirndl", or rather a jokey version of said traditional German dress - made from scratch, all by myself! It took me half a day to cut the pattern, another day and a half to sew it, and that's without any kind of fancy finishing or even lining. Still miles better than any of the badly made, overpriced Halloween costumes you find in the shops though.

The dress is actually strapless, what you see me tying up there in the second photo is a sort of mini waistcoat to "hoik" things up a little. Wore fishnet tights and platform boots to round things off. I've had the boots for about ten years, but I never wear them anymore, and last night I remembered why: not only are the hideous, they are also bloody uncomfortable. They seemed like a great idea in 1996 though...
I made this jacket last summer, still like and wear it, this corsage being the main reason:

Went to the New Glasgow Fashion Show yesterday, more about that here. The tickets were free through a connection at work, which was great, since I don't usually get to do very many fun things through work. Also spotted a few famous faces in the crowd, which was good fun. Our tickets from work were for the front row, and that also included a little goodie bag, which was brilliant.
The line-up included the "names to watch" (as the PR folk put it) of Glasgow fashion, and although I can be quite cynical at times, I have to say I really enjoyed the whole thing - pretty much unreservedly. There was one model though that made me cringe quite a lot: her shoes were too big for her, she walked like she was on the run from something, and she looked dangerously close to falling off the runway. I couldn't take in any of the outfits she was wearing, every time she came out I just had to look away! She just seemed to be so mortified, poor thing.
I'm just back from the Rugby, again free tickets from work (and there's me complaining I never get to do anything fun through work..., well, I really don't, the two things a year that I do get to do just happened to come along at the same time, honest!), and really shattered, I think I'll have to leave the updating until tomorrow. I stupidly forgot my camera, so can't even post any pictures of our little night out, buh.
Looong day today...
College from 9am until 4pm, then my machine knitting class at the art school from 6 until 9pm. Puh. But at least I can say there is a definite sense of achievement!
Today's outfit - my first official wardrobe_remix outfit:

I'm so knackered, I'm not even able to write much about the kind of day I've had. It's been fun though, lots of crafty action going on. More about that tomorrow.
After reading other people's fabulous craft and fashion blogs for months, I am finally ready to start my own. Not that I haven't tried before, but usually my enthusiasm would wane after a few posts, I would forget my password and just abandon the blog (I know, it's very silly), or I would just get too caught up in other things to remember posting. But now we have wireless internet in the flat, I've got lots of work to do and show, and most importantly, I feel more motivated than I have ever done before!
I am also going to start posting on Trisha Royal's wardrobe_remix over at flickr. I've been following that photo pool for a few months now, and every time I check back, thinking surely people must be running out of ideas, I see more amazing-ness and inspiration. I'm hoping that posting there regularly will make me take on board new ideas for my own wardrobe and keep me from getting too comfortable in my jeans and jumper routine.
Here is my first attempt at wardrobe_remix-ing, which, unfortunately, I won't be able to post. I didn't realise the shots had to be completely head-to-toe until I had joined the group and read the rules. Nevermind, I'll try again later, when my flatmate/willing photographer is back. In the meantime, my almost wardrobe_remix photos - tadaa!

The quality of the photo isn't great, but my camera has been very dodgy lately. I know what's on top of my Christmas wish list this year...!
This one is a bit better, although I do have a slightly insane smile on my face:

...and the boots:

Right, that's me for today, I think. Time to stop procrastinating and time to start on my college work!
